Origins of the UNiverse |
For this I explored the questions: Where do we come from, and the impacts that borders and barriers have on our lives, both scientifically and physiologically. I wrote a memoir on a time in my life when I fell ill with a chronic pain and how I learned to live with it over the course of a year while doctors investigated the culprit. I also researched the topic of Noah's Ark to discover it's insight to the origins of the universe. Once that was completed I created an origin story that explained my own fictional twist to how Noah's Ark occurred, and created 3 paper cut silhouettes that represented scenes from my story.

In the beginning of the year we wrote a memoir on a time where we faced a border/barrier that shaped us into the people we are today. For me that was when I experienced an excruciating pain in my throat, and learning to live with it over the course of a year while doctors tried to determine the culprit. From this experience I discovered an interest for the medical field, as well as a new passion. Feel free to read my paper to the right to learn more!
For the science portion of the project I had the topic of Noah's Ark which is important when discovering the origins of the universe because it gives another theory as to when and where humans originated. According to Noah's Ark humans walk the Earth prior to the Great Flood, but were completely wiped out during it, so they originated in Turkey 4,000 years ago. The scientific theory is that humans originated in what is today know as Africa. They have supported their claim with evidence such as carbon dating. Carbon dating is possible by the fact that as soon as an organism dies it loses the ability to take in anymore carbon, and is stuck at a carbon-12 to carbon-14 ratio. Scientist can then compare the carbon-12 to carbon-14 ratio of the deceased organism to that of a life one to determine it's age. Scientist have used carbon dating to determine that the earliest of human fossils came from between 6 and 2 million years ago, and entirely from Africa, supporting their claim that humans originated there.
However, for my argumentative paper I researched studies and information on how Noah's Ark could have survived the even events explained in the Bible. Including food, fitting all the animals on the Ark, and the harsh conditions. You can read this paper to the upper right. The origin story I wrote was a fictional twist to my scientific topic of Noah's Ark. For this my main character experienced the events explained in the Bible, but as an outsider that nobody knew had also survived. During this he explains the Ark and the scenes outside of it as the world was wiped away. You can read read my origin story on the right.
Along with my origin story I also created 3 paper cut silhouettes, which you can see to the right. These were designed and created entirely by me. I created them using only paper, an exacto knife, and glue. Currently, my piece, Skeleton in the Corner, is being displayed in the San Diego Downtown Public Library in the Teen Section. Along with an expert of my origins story.

During this project I learned a lot about who I am and the world that I live in. Out of everything that I learned, the one I found most significant, is that there truly are two sides to every story. Such as how a negative event in ones life can actually have a positive effect, and change your for the better. Or that there is a creationist theory and a scientific theory to every part of the orings of the universe. There are strong evidence to support both, and you can decide which one you want to believe in, or simply deny any. For we cannot define one or the other as correct. It's simply what you choose to believe. I also learned that there is no right answer, or path for you. Life is constantly changing, so our numbers and discoveries. We do not know if Noah's Ark and the Great Flood actually occurred, or if humans simply originated in Africa and have been spreading and growing across the globe ever since. I learned a lot about science, how carbon dating is used to determine the age of fossils, different studies done and math to calculate if Noah's Ark could have survived or not. I also learned a lot about writing and convenying these sorts of writings. But I see these personally discoveries, the ones I noticed while researching, writing, and creating, the most important.
